learning how to code doesn't matter anymore
If you were in the late 90's and started right away with your Windows 98 computer, typing away your documents without previously understanding and effectively learning how to operate a typewriter - would that make any difference?
AI and code plays similar roles in that comparison. Let's be frank - the advent of AI is as big (if not bigger) than the internet itself. Even though the majority of developers are in denial, we can't blind ourselves to the fact that billions of dollars are being poured into this technology and it is only going to be better as time advances. AI now is at it's worst state compared to what it will be next year.
So if there is something that I don't think one should put effort into is learning how to code. Instead, I'd learn software architecture and even AI itself can help you with that. Understanding how to prompt for a good project and how to manage the problems that will come with it is what really matters now. The harsh truth is that software engineered by humans won't be around in the next 10 years or so.
By being humans, we are extremely adaptable. I'd encourage you to embrace this new chapter and use AI as much as possible. Pour your ideas out. Make a new website. Change the look of your feed. Build stuff. Break them. Repair. Build again. Use agents. Generate cute pixel art.
It's out there. And it's not going anywhere but forward. It will improve. Become better. More accurate. Don't be a typewriter enthusiast.
